From daily life
to shared ritual.

Above the Plateau brings Daniel Feng’s photographs of Gannan to Shanghai World Foreign Language Academy. Moving from the everyday life of a farming family to the thangka unveiling festival at Labrang Monastery, the photographs trace a path from the intimacy of home to a shared cultural gathering.

Across these scenes, attention rests on people: their gestures, their relationships and the ways they inhabit this landscape. The exhibition invites a slower encounter with Gannan, through ordinary moments as well as the scale of a public ceremony.
